Senior Clinician / Clinical Manager Full Description
Aliva Psychotherapy is hiring for a full-time permanent senior clinician or clinical manager role. THIS IS A VIRTUAL POSITION.
Aliva focuses on deep therapy for weight management, eating disorders, food addiction and support for GLP-1’s and bariatric surgery.
You will be critical to our success – so our search will be meticulous.
Here is what you must have to be considered:
- Full Registration with CRPO, CPBAO or OCSWSSW. RP-Q’s will not be considered;
- 5-10 years of full, unsupervised clinical experience;
- A minimum caseload of 20-25 hourly therapy appointments per week for any four years in the last 10 years;
- No direct or lived experience with eating disorders is required, but is certainly helpful;
- Proof that you have billed out at a rate of $185-$200 an hour at some point in the last five years.

A Vision of Our Ideal Candidate
You’re a senior manager or executive director in a community service, not-for-profit or private practice setting. You earned that role because you were an exceptional clinician. But – you became a manager instead of a therapist. You still care deeply about your work. You’re just tired of bureaucracy and decisions made by people who’ve never sat in the therapist’s chair. You’re “the boss”, but your freedom is limited by rules you didn’t create. Your best ideas don’t make it off the whiteboard. To stay connected to what you love, you may keep a small private practice on the side.
Or maybe you’re a mid-career therapist in private or group practice. You know you have an entrepreneurial streak, but the demands of seeing clients leave little time to build a real business. You’ve realized something important: you’re not a lone wolf. You’re best when you’re building with someone who shares your ambition.
Your superpower is the ability to creatively figure things out. You solve problems outside your expertise. You make difficult work look easy. More than anything, you’re looking for a chance to build something that matters—and finally have the freedom to do it.
Your Roles and Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will fill one of two roles. Both roles are full-time permanent and will be determined in collaboration with the clinic owner:
Role #1: Senior Clinician
You will see 25 clients a week. You will build to this volume over a four-month period. You will: 1) Be the first point of client contact; 2) Do a full assessment; 3) Decide the treatment plan, and; 4) Assign the treating clinician. You may take on some training and managing such as consulting with junior therapists and/or creating learning plans.
Role #2: Practice Manager
You would see 15 clients per week. The practice owner will do initial intakes and assign you cases that fit your expertise. The remainder of your time will be developing training plans for junior clinicians and helping them manage their cases. You will consult on treatment plans and managing healing relationships with clients through psychodynamic means.

Your Psychotherapy Education Must:
- Be in clinical psychology, social work or psychotherapy/counseling from a recognized Canadian Publicly Funded University. International institutions will be accepted with a credential evaluation;
- Be from a private psychodynamic/psychoanalytic-oriented training institute in Ontario (Gestalt, Psychoanalytic, Jungian, Interpersonal, Relational, Adlerian, etc…
Your Therapeutic Approach Must:
Be psychodynamic, transference-focused and/or relational. These must form the primary mechanism of change in your work with clients.
Acceptable modalities include Psychoanalysis, Gestalt, Jungian, Existential, Object Relations, Present-Centered Approaches or Attachment-Based Psychotherapy. DBT will be fully considered if the candidate actively uses the acceptance-change dialectic in-session.
Being merely “informed” by these approaches, borrowing isolated techniques, relying on self-study/books, or occasional workshops will not meet this requirement. You must demonstrate substantial formal education, supervised training, and clinical experience showing that these approaches are central to your practice.
Applicants who cannot demonstrate that these approaches are the foundation of their clinical work will not be considered. We will assess this requirement rigorously and require clear evidence of your education, training, and experience in these modalities.
Nice to Haves for Your Application:
- Experience with managing staff/therapists either in a therapy setting or otherwise. Such experience could include but is not limited to: Providing professional development to junior clinicians; Providing consultation and/or supervision to junior clinicians; Creating internal training programs in a therapy setting or otherwise; Providing staff evaluations in a therapy setting or otherwise; and/or Hiring and managing junior staff in a therapy setting or otherwise.
- Lived experience with disordered eating and/or weight management and/or food addiction, including use of GLP-1’s and/or bariatric surgery;
- Previous practicum, placement and/or employment experience in an eating disorders clinic – either hospital or community-based;
- Being engaged as a supervisor, consultant, instructor, lecturer or psychotherapy trainer in any capacity;
- Business management experience in areas of marketing, finance or human resources;
- General experience with common psychological conditions including Bipolar, OCD, ADHD, personality disorders, trauma, DID as well as severe anxiety and depression.
